Elevated Craftsmanship: Cedar Shake Roof Completed in Elmhurst, IL
We recently completed a stunning new roofing project in Elmhurst, IL, where our team installed a Western Red Cedar Shake roof—a timeless choice that combines natural beauty with long-lasting performance.
The process began with full protection of the home and landscape to ensure no damage during removal. We then tore off the existing shingles and felt paper, re-nailed any loose decking, and inspected the roof for damaged wood, replacing sheathing where necessary.
To ensure maximum durability and weather protection, we installed ice and water shield across the entire roof, along with wood starters, 30 lb felt between each cedar course, and Western Red Cedar Taper Sawn shingles for a rich, textured finish. Ventilation was addressed with new slant back vents, and the ridge was sealed with a shake liner for a seamless look.
To complete the upgrade, we added premium copper details—including new copper drip edges, a custom front copper pan under the dormer, and an elegant new gutter system. The new 6” half-round copper gutters, paired with round downspouts and smooth copper elbows, add a striking, high-end touch that perfectly complements the shake roof.
